My house is for sale with a lower price of $179,900. The house across the street that often appears in my view pictures is also for sale. It belonged to a dear friend who passes away this summer.

The gardens and landscaping are well documented on this blog. Here are a few pictures of my house.

There is a front and back deck, plus a balcony off one upstairs bedroom.

The living room, dining room and kitchen are all open.

The garage has the potential for two car if another door were added. Right now it is a workshop with a pool table.

My neighbors house is so unique inside and out. The price is $215,000.

It has a beautiful stacked stone fireplace.

The driveway entrance is level, and has room for several cars.

This is just a part of the fantastic view.

The rhododendron and Columbine are prolific this year. I thought the white azaleas under the hammock didn’t bloom because they were in the shade. This year they proved me wrong.

The rhododendrons show up better because the Cotoneaster is gone, and there are fewer blueberry bushes.

I gave away four blueberry bushes which all lived in their new homes. The six bushes that are left have abundant blueberries.

The Clematis try their best to climb to the top of the stumps, while I keep winding them around them.

Update on my previous post:

I heard the turkey hen yesterday among the rhododendron, but never could find her. The food I put out is eaten, but I don’t really know if the turkey and poults are enjoying it or not.

I thought a turkey hen had a nest up on the bank in back, but wasn’t sure until this morning.

I had been pressure washing, and put the wire fencing off the deck. When I paint, it helps keep Mia off so she doesn’t get her paws sticky. The turkey hen can easily get over it, or go around the other way to get out. But she’s stayed there all day. When I went to take a picture the poults ran under her protective body. The one below was the poky one who took refuge last.

At first I thought there were only four poults. Later she got up to walk around there were many more.

Many, many more. It looks like she has at least eleven poults.

Don’t know why they all came down the bank. It’s been an exciting day. Look for updates!

In December we had a beautiful but damaging snow. The weight of the snow broke numerous branches, mainly from the pines.

We had fourteen inches, and very cold weather that kept this snow on the ground.

The branches touching the ground all broke. It left so much work, and a big mess.

From the picture below it is obvious how much weight was straining the pines.

I found these tracks in the snow. No one seems to know what animal could have left them.

Now, in January, we are getting another big snow. It has been snowing on and off all day. So far we only have eight inches. Most of us are tired of snow!

Pretty, but it is so much work shoveling,

and hauling in wet wood through the snow!

The rock wall has never before had snow clinging to the side like this.

The pines are even icier than in December. This Thursday and Friday more snow is forecast. Enough!

As Thanksgiving draws near, here come the turkeys! These were in the yard across the street at first. I’ve seen many down the road, but never the white one.

We are very curious about the white one. Obviously it is not an albino, so how did it end up with this group?

There were at least ten of them. It was difficult to get them all in one picture, and count how many there were.

They were camera shy, or afraid I was going to hurt them. No danger there. I was just glad they weren’t in my garden.

After going in the road, a car came and slowed down. They ran back to the driveway again. The driver stopped and said, “Did you see the white one?” How could you miss it?

Finally they went into the woods, where they are safer. The neighborhood has pardoned all of them.

The artichokes kept growing with lovely, floppy leaves, but none of the thistles until the middle of September. Then I discovered one at the center. Two weeks later the other plant produced one at the same place.

On October 18th the view of the mountains look like this:

We also had an early frost on October 16th. So it was necessary to cover the artichokes and hope they will make it through the winter to produce more next year. The web site I found said to cut them back to twelve inches, then mound with compost. Next put a basket on top of each plant, then cover with oak leaves. The last thing was to top with a waterproof cover and weight the edges with rocks. I also added a mattress pad under the leaves to help remove them next spring. Just under the waterproof cover I also added a comforter. It’s a real eyesore, but maybe the artichokes next year will be worth looking at it all winter.

First I planted too many vegetables too close in the garden. Then the rains came and made the garden look like a jungle. In the first square several butternut squash plants are surrounding the two artichoke plants. Maybe they will grow globes in desperation.

This row of Smeraldos below climbs on three levels of fence, but the vines also started climbing the tepee. They are dense with leaves and many beans, but I have to hunt when I pick.

The Smeraldos below are rather sparse, but have many beans that are easier to pick. (The blueberry frames and netting in the background are now gone, as are the fresh blueberries.) I’ve already enjoyed a meal of the tasty beans, and have attempted freezing some for this winter.

I’m hoping the dill in front of the beans will reseed and have seed heads in time for dill pickles.

Actually dill is everywhere. As I pull it I put it around the squash to keep away vine borers.

This square is not so crowded yet. It has okra, lettuce, beets and a variety of onions from seeds.

The Supervisor had to rest after the long walk down to the garden.

Transplants from my son and his wife’s backyard are now planted here. I think I’ve seen them in this area, but not on my property. They are loved by deer, which is why my son wanted to plant his garden in pots this year. He put them on the back deck where the deer can’t eat them, as they did last year.
