Crustless Ricotta Pie

Will the snow every end? It’s the second day of March, and I’m ready for spring.

With no four-wheel drive I wasn’t going anywhere, so I decided to put a new twist on a easy recipe. Crustless Ricotta Pie is the original recipe. When I’ve tried it before I’ve put in different ingredients, but today I [...]

Favorite Butternut Squash Soup

Search for butternut soup recipes and you will be cooking for days if you tried just the ones that sounded delicious. This recipe is from America’s Test Kitchens. It can be found at Americas Test Kitchens. It is a video which is a great way to cook if you can write down the recipe as you go. [...]

Snow in December and January

In December we had a beautiful but damaging snow. The weight of the snow broke numerous branches, mainly from the pines.

We had fourteen inches, and very cold weather that kept this snow on the ground.

The branches touching the ground all broke. It left so much work, and a big mess.

From the picture below it is [...]

Christmas Greetings

The glowing skull peaked the Supervisor’s curiosity.

What’s that flashing?

Maybe I could learn how to do that.

Just can’t figure it out!

Merry Christmas from the Supervisor and friend.

Found! A Fresh Pumpkin!

The lady who cuts my hair always saves her leftover pumpkins from Halloween for me to put in my compost. One turned out to be perfectly fresh after cutting into it. No rotten places! So I had another chance to try the pumpkin tureen recipe.

Since it called for horseradish, I decided to finally [...]

The Pumpkin Tureen

Thanksgiving is over. Now, what would be a different way to use the pumpkin and squash?
This idea appealed to me. It sounds simple but elegant.
The Pumpkin Tureen
My pumpkin wasn’t quite eight inches in diameter, so I added the winter squashes to the recipe.

After cutting into the pumpkin, I found a tiny brown spot on the outside [...]

Just in Time for Thanksgiving

As Thanksgiving draws near, here come the turkeys! These were in the yard across the street at first. I’ve seen many down the road, but never the white one.

We are very curious about the white one. Obviously it is not an albino, so how did it end up with this group?

There were at least ten [...]

Three Flowers

I have seen every other herb flower but never rosemary until this summer.

My camera would not show the delicate lavender of these blossoms. It was the same with the heather, which is blooming now and will probably last well into winter.

Another surprise was the beautiful blooms that shot up from the Lamb’s Ears.

The spikes of [...]

Butternut and Sausage

Thankfully, I grew lots of butternut squash this year. This time I tried something with meat for a main course.

Above are the ingredients (except sage) for a recipe that Rabia suggested. It was a delicious pick, and relatively easy.
Herb Roasted Sausage and Butternut Squash
The sausage I used was poblano peppers with Mexican cheese.

One is Better Than None

The artichokes kept growing with lovely, floppy leaves, but none of the thistles until the middle of September. Then I discovered one at the center. Two weeks later the other plant produced one at the same place.

On October 18th the view of the mountains look like this:

We also had an early frost on October 16th. [...]
