At the backdoor I try to plant things that I can get quickly when I’m cooking.

Besides herbs this year I have four kinds of  peppers, cucumbers and three tomato plants.

This is what it looked like in early summer.

Backdoor sunflowers

By the end of July I had to add two more stakes in front of the originals as the tomatoes moved towards the sun.

Cherokee Purple tomatoes  brown spots on tomatoes

The Cherokee Purple had beautiful tomatoes until the green ones started to have brown spots.  This started in the big garden and after about a week spread to the backdoor garden.  My knowledgeable neighbors think it is a fungus.  It’s the first time I’ve ever experienced this, and hopefully the last.

minus tomatoes

Now it looks less like a jungle.

Cukes

At least the Divas are lush with many little cucumbers.
