The birds planted the volunteer asparagus, and when I added compost these two-toned plants appeared. They look like some gourds I put in the compost at least two years ago. They were pretty, so I will leave at least one plant. I was really hoping for something to eat.
It interesting that some gourds have more green than others. At least they will provide a varied display this fall.
The asparagus has enough structure to allow the vines to climb almost to the top. The only other volunteers I’ve discovered this year were some avocado plants which usually die after the first frost. This time a friend from Florida is going to try them there.
