While weeding a flowerbed at the side of the house I discovered a plant that smelled like anise. After checking with the previous owner she said she did plant anise. When it bloomed it was a beautiful plant that I’m so glad I spared.
After reading about it the leaves and blossoms can be used in different ways. It’s actually a member of the mint family, not a true anise. Another delightful thing about it is that the butterflies love it. Below is a close-up of two of the butterflies that were on it when I took the picture in the morning. I have seen tiger and black swallowtails all over it, but unfortunately not when I took the picture.
